Established in 2012, German Kinderland began when Alexandria resident, mother and teacher, Suzi O., decided to pursue her passion for teaching outside of her day-to-day position at a Montessori School in Virginia.
Born and raised in Gelsenkirchen, Germany and a resident of the United States since 2000, Suzi is fluent in both English and German and has been an integral part of the Montessori teaching team from 2001 to 2018. Serving as a highly qualified pre-school assistant teacher, Suzi is an accomplished teaching professional with an accolade of certifications including CPR/First Aid from the Emergency Care and Safety Institute and Professional Development credits from the American Montessori Society.
Not quite content fulfilling her duties at the Montessori School, Suzi began her German Kinderland classes in April 2012. Held on Saturday mornings for four hours, German Kinderland is a play and learn environment where children enjoy games, movement, songs and crafts in a small group of between eight to ten.
Suzi’s enthusiasm for sharing her extensive knowledge of the German language and culture she was exposed to growing up is undeniably evident in both her classroom environment and her teaching ability.
Adopting many of the successful Montessori approaches to schooling, Suzi encourages an interactive classroom complete with age appropriate materials and objects designed to enhance her student’s learning experiences.
Set in her warm and inviting home, the German Kinderland classroom is a playful scene in which students feel both comfortable and excited to participate in weekly sessions. This setting combined with Suzi’s creative teaching leaves her students begging to return to “Frau Suzi’s” week after week!
